This month's dilemma:

My daughter burnt popcorn in the microwave. Not only does it stink but it has turned it an ugly orange/brown color. Do you have any suggestions on how to remove the stains and the odor?

Solutions:

Boil about 1 and half cups lemon juice, half cup water and about one teaspoon of nutmeg for a couple of minutes and let set for about 5-7 minutes. This removes smells and the oven wipes clean of dry, cooked particles. Submitted by Kathy in South Carolina.

I don't know about the stains but the smells I do. You need to put some baking soda in a glass of water and cook it for about 5 minutes or until it boils and then leave it in there for a couple of minutes. The steam will then loosen the grime and the baking soda will naturally deodorize it. All you will need to do then is wipe it. Submitted by Marcie in Pennsylvania.

Try wadding up newspapers and stuffing in the microwave, closing the door and letting the paper absorb some of the smell. You'll need to replace after several hours... You may also put charcoal briquets in there to help. With the stain, I've used baking soda and constant wiping. Submitted by Tracy in South Carolina.

Use of the microwave and time is the best fix. In the interim I used a microwave safe bowl and boiled 2 cups of water and a tablespoon of baking soda for 5 or 6 minutes occasionally. Lemon juice would probably work well too. No chemicals though!.
P.S. Let the mixture cool in the microwave for a bit and the rest of the cooked on or burnt on crusties will wipe off in a snap!. Submitted by Tammy in South Carolina.

Throw it out and buy a new black microwave. Teach her how to properly cook popcorn in the microwave. That stain will never come out and the smell is horrendous for months. Michelle in North Carolina.

Try heating up vinigar in the microwave, to just above boiling, let it sit and cool. Another suggestion is baking soda paste, it should work as a mild abrasice to help clean the inside, and also alieve the smell. Submitted by Chet.
